How do I register my store? (Why doesn’t my KEY file find a match?)

Answer: The RealCart™ KEY file works ONLY for the web address you registered when you bought the key file (with NO exceptions.)

Note: If you used a web based email address like Hotmail or Yahoo, or if you use the email programs Eudora or Calypso then your key file may be corrupt. Click here for more info.

First, let’s make sure the key file is named key.rssc. If it isn’t named key.rssc it won’t work.

When you double-click the KEY file to register your software the program will try to match your key file to your store that you have defined. It will open your current store and compare the Site URL from the “Site tab” of the “Store Wizard” to the site URL encoded into the key file. If they are identical then your shopping cart will be registered. If they do not match you will get the “doesn’t match” error.

If you haven’t defined a store yet then there is nothing for the shopping cart to match the KEY file to and you will get the message: “Your key file does not match your current store.”

If you have defined your store already then you may just need to open the correct store. If you believe you have the correct store open and the key file still does not match, double check the email we sent the key file in. The URL we encoded into it will be in the subject line of the message.

Here’s an example of how you might be getting this error by mistake:

If we sent you a key file for “www.myretrostore.com” (just look at the subject of your message. It will contain the EXACT contents of the key file) but the store you made has a site URL of “http://myretrostore.com” then you will get the message that the KEY file doesn’t match your current store.

That’s because the address:

http://www.myretrostore.com” and
http://myretrostore.com

are NOT the same address. (one is missing the “www”)

SOLUTION:

Open your store manager by clicking the “File menu” and then select “Store.”

When the store wizard opens, select the store you want to open and then click the “Open button.”

If you get the error that the KEY file doesn’t match. Open the store anyway and click on the “Shop” button to open the “Store Wizard.”

Click on the “Site” tab and change the “Site URL” to exactly match the URL you purchased the KEY file for. If you purchased a key file for: “myretrostore.com” then you should enter: “http://www.myretrostore.com” as the Site URL. (Don’t forget. You must enter “http://” regardless of what your Site URL is.)

If the shopping cart applet in the upper left corner of the screen no longer says “Demo” then your store is registered.
