Is my Sun Java Plug-in out of date?

Answer:

Check your computer for out of date Java Plug-In

You can check your computer to see if an “out of date” Java Plug-In by following these instructions:
  • Click Start/Settings/Control Panel.
  • Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Scroll down the list to where the J’s are.
  • Check to see if you have a Java Plug-In installed.
If you have one installed it will be listed as Java 2.. with a version number at the end ...v1.4.1_01.
  • Check this version number against the list of out-dated version numbers available at the Sun Java web site. Scroll down the page a little. You will see the list of out-dated Java Plug-Ins under the heading “JavaTM 2 SDK, Standard Edition (J2SETM)”.

If your version is on this list then it is not current and you may want to uninstall it. (Even if your Java Plug-In is current you may want to uninstall it anyway or uninstall the Microsoft JVM as having multiple Java Virtual Machines will cause problems as well.)
  • Uninstall the outdated Sun Java Plug-In and try placing an order again. If it works then your computer is fixed!
  • If you do not see a Java Plug-In listed in the Add/Remove Programs dialog window then you may have a missing or damaged JVM.
If you can “add to cart” O.K. at RealCart’s on-line store then the problem is likely fixed. Try placing an order again at the original web site.

Windows Users:

Try ordering with Microsoft Internet Explorer. MSIE has not changed its Java handling since MSIE version 2. If you can order with MSIE then you know that the problem must lie with your other browser(s). For example, Netscape version 7.x is currently installing outdated Java Plug-ins. RealCart works with the current release version of Sun’s Java Virtual Machine but does not work with some of the older variations of this plug-in.

If you can order with Internet Explorer, go ahead and complete the order.

If you cannot order with Internet Explorer you may want to check one of the other reasons.

Note:

There are several programs and even a few web sites that install out-dated Java Plug-Ins on your computer. These programs include, but are not limited to:
  • LimeWire
  • Netscape 6 and 7
  • The USPS Priority Mail lable printer web site

Macintosh Users:

Mac systems are currently being shipped with browsers that no longer support ’Live Connect“ Java to JavaScript communication which RealCart relies on. You may want to try Sun’s Hot Java Browser available from the Sun Web Site. For more info on why Mac users may have problems buying from a RealCart enabled on-line store please review this FAQ.

Solaris Users:

You may want to try Sun’s Hot Java Browser available from the Sun Web Site.
