Answer:
This can happen when you have restored your store from a back up CD ROM disk. Files copied from a CDR back to your hard drive are read-only and the read-only attribute must be unchecked on all of the files you restored. There is an easy way to do this rather than doing it one by one.
If you have Windows Me or 2000... Just right click the RealCart.com folder (or whatever folder you installed RealCart to if not the default) and then uncheck the read-only checkbox. A prompt will ask you if you want to apply this change to the folder only or if you want to apply changes to this folder, sub folders and files. Choose the second option: Apply changes to this folder, sub folders and files
If you have Windows 95, 98 or NT... It is not quite as easy as this but it can still be done quickly by doing the following:
- Locate the RealCart.com folder under the Program Files folder (or where ever you installed RealCart.)
- Search the folder by pressing the F3 button.
- DO NOT SPECIFY A SEARCH instead, just click the Search button. (This will find all files which is what we want to do.)
- When the search stops and you can see all of your RealCart files and folders press CTRL A to select all or just choose Select All from the Edit menu.
- Right click on the list of selected files and choose Properties.
- Uncheck the read-only checkbox making sure it is cleared then click OK.
- Your files are no longer read-only and now you can rebuild them in RealCart again.
Backing up your store regularly is a good way to avoid a catastrophic data loss!
